Chat with PDF

Open a PDF in DocuMint and ask it questions directly, instead of scrolling and searching through every page yourself. DocuMint AI answers using the document's own content.

See plans

Your PDF file stays in your browser — only the text needed to answer your question is sent for AI processing.

How it works

Ask a PDF a question in three steps

  1. 1

    Open your PDF

Add a PDF to the workspace. It opens right in your browser, ready to ask about.

  2. 2

    Ask a question

Type a question about the document in plain language — no need to search through it page by page.

  3. 3

Get an answer grounded in the document

DocuMint AI answers based on the document's text and points to the source page(s) it used, so you can check the answer yourself.

Who it's for

Useful whenever you need one answer, not the whole document

Students

Ask about lecture notes, assigned readings, or study PDFs instead of re-reading the whole thing to find one answer.

Researchers

Locate and understand a specific finding or method in a paper without scanning every page.

Professionals

Pull a specific detail out of a report, policy, or manual on the spot.

Business users

Ask a proposal, contract, or business document a direct question instead of hunting through it manually.

Chat vs. summary

Different from a summary, on purpose

A summary gives you the overview. Chatting with a PDF lets you dig into a specific detail — and keep asking follow-up questions — while the document stays open in your workspace.

Ask for specifics

Go straight to the detail you need instead of reading for it.

Keep asking

Follow-up questions use your recent conversation as context, so you don't have to repeat yourself.

See the source

Answers point back to the page(s) they came from, so you can check them against the original.

Privacy & document handling

What happens to your PDF and your questions

  • The PDF file itself stays in your browser — it is not uploaded to DocuMint's server.
  • The document's text is extracted locally, in your browser.
  • When you ask a question, the relevant extracted text and your question are sent to DocuMint's server and then to our AI provider, OpenAI, to generate an answer.
  • DocuMint does not store the uploaded document, your questions, or the AI's answers on its servers.

For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

AI answers can be wrong

AI-generated answers can misunderstand context, omit information, or get details wrong. For longer documents, DocuMint focuses on the most relevant pages rather than reading the entire file for every question. Treat answers as a starting point, and check anything important against the original PDF.

FAQ

Common questions about chatting with a PDF

What does "chat with PDF" mean?

It means asking questions about a PDF's content in plain language and getting an AI-generated answer based on the document, instead of manually searching or reading through it.

How do I ask questions about a PDF?

Open a PDF in the DocuMint workspace, then use Ask Document to type your question. DocuMint AI reads the document's text and answers based on what it finds.

Does DocuMint upload my PDF?

The PDF file itself stays in your browser and is not uploaded to DocuMint's server. When you ask a question, the relevant extracted text and your question are sent through DocuMint's server to OpenAI so it can generate an answer.

Can I ask follow-up questions?

Yes. Recent messages in your conversation are included as context, so you can ask a follow-up question without repeating everything from scratch.

Can AI answers be wrong?

Yes. AI-generated answers can misunderstand context, miss information, or get details wrong. When DocuMint can't find enough in the document to answer, it says so rather than guessing — but you should still check anything important against the original PDF.
